Frequently Asked Questions
What does a Doula do?
A doula provides education, support and tools to a birthing person before, during and after their birth. A doula’s role is to elevate the voice of the birthing person and help to keep their entire team on the same page with the goal of achieving your dream birthing experience. This can look like hands on support and pain management techniques, providing resources, helping at home and more.
Are you first aid/cpr certified?
Yes! I am adult, infant and child cpr and firt aid certified.
Where will you attend a birth?
As your birth doula my role is to support YOU in your birth and what makes you feel comfortable and empowered. I will attend your birth at home, in a birth center or at the hospital. If birthing in a center or hospital I will come support your early labor at home until it is time to head to the location of your birth.
I’m planning for an epidural, can a doula still be helpful for me?
Absolutely! A doula can support you in early labor. When the time comes, even with an epidural a doula can help you get into labor positions that encourage baby to engage and move labor along. I will also help keep you motivated, giving encouragement and reminders that you are still working hard to bring your baby into the world. Your doula will also provide support and coaching while pushing.
What is your Experience providing postpartum support?
Prior to becoming a doula I worked as a nanny for 15+ years including new born care. I also ran an infant care program for 3 years caring for infants from 6 weeks on. Postpartum support from me will look like delivered meals, talking through your birth story and postpartum experience, help or guidance with feeding, babies first bath, swaddling, housework, entertaining older siblings for a bit or anything else you might need.
What if i want or need more than the standard 2 Postpartum sessions?
If after the standard two postpartum sessions you feel you would benefit from another one or two I am happy to accommodate that for an additional fee.
Do you provide lactation/feeding support?
As part of becoming a certified DONA doula, I am trained in basic breastfeeding education and support and am here to answer your questions and provide hands on support to the best of my ability. I am here to support you in whatever choice you make about how to feed your baby. Be it breastfeeding, pumping, formula or a combination of any and all. I can help connect you with local resources that may be able to provide any support or information I am unable to.
What is your expErience attending births?
I have been working as a volunteer doula at Alta Bates hospital in Berkeley, CA since February 2024. In that time I have attended many births, all of which have been unique, and supported birthing people throughout all phases of labor.
I have also been lucky enough to support birthing people and familes privately through their labor and birth. This includes supporting them through early labor at home, the trainsition to laboring at the hospital and helping to navigate situations when things do not go according to plan.
How much does a doula cost?
I am open and happy to be working with clients of many communities and believe everyone deserves access to doula care. When we have our initial consultation we will discuss rates and what may work for you and your family. Please see the “Rates” tab for more information.
